PurposeHazel Carrasco and Owen Solberg made the Underground Railroad Site as part of the Rural Learning Network, a collaborative effort to use technology to link rural schools together. It was one of many projects made by student-teachers in the UC Davis Division of Education. At the time we made it, in the Spring of 1996, we were well on our way to becoming an English and science teacher, respectively. We communicated with Yuba Feather School, in Challenge, California, while organizing this project - also actually getting to visit the school on fine day in the Fall of 1995. In the months following, we exchanged many emails with students of Brent Fox's 8th grade class, who studied the Civil War as part of their history lessons this Spring. Writing and exchanging ideas with students, we came to learn more about Yuba Feather School. Even if the letters weren't always about the Underground Railroad, they show a use of technology that may have potential in education. This page is hosted by the School of Education at UC Davis. We, the authors, hope that our efforts will encourage other students, teachers, and student teachers to use technology to reach out to one another. |
