David Murphy
Superintendent (ret.), Davis Joint Unified School District
David Murphy worked as a superintendent for 21 years. He served the Davis Joint Unified School District and was appointed by the Governor in 2009 to be the Superintendent of Education, California’s Division of Juvenile Justice, Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
David has been the Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) state chair for its Secondary Education Committee and later served for three years as the state chair of the ACSA School to Career Committee. For the Association of the Improvement of Secondary Education (AISE, also known as the California High School Districts Association), he served for several years on the AISE executive board and then as the AISE State Chair.
He is an active member of the California Association of Latino Superintendents and Administrators (CALSA). David’s work with CALSA includes creating and coordinating the CALSA statewide program: Advocate, Mentor, Advice and Support (AMAS). He is also the Coordinator of the CALSA Higher Education Conclave.
David graduated from Santa Clara University and Stanford University.
