Our Credential/Masters Track offers an opportunity for qualified
students to obtain both a Multiple Subject or Single Subject
Credential (optional BCLAD emphasis) and a Master of Arts in
Education degree in a combined five-quarter program. The
credential is completed in one school year while taking courses
full time, and the masters is completed in the following fall and
winter quarter while taking classes part-time; this allows
students to be full time teachers while completing their master’s
degree. We offer Teaching Credential programs in elementary
education as well as secondary English, mathematics, social
science, science (biology, chemistry, geo-science, physics), and
agricultural education.
Graduates of this classroom inquiry based track have reported
feeling especially well prepared (1) to view classroom teaching
and learning challenges through the lens of inquiry; (2) to
engage in follow-up research on issues related to those they
examined for their MA projects; and (3) to become, in their
schools and districts, new leaders who share their research
findings with colleagues in informal gatherings and in
professional meetings and workshops.

A Multiple Subject teaching
credential authorizes you to provide instruction in all subjects
in a self-contained class for students in grades twelve and
below, including preschool, and in classes organized primarily
for adults. However, most multiple subject teachers in California
teach in grades K-6.
You will earn a Single Subject teaching credential in your
specific subject which authorizes you to provide instruction in
only that subject to students in grades twelve and below,
including preschool, and in classes organized primarily for
adults. However, most single subject teachers in California teach
in grades 7-12.
