Collaborative Design Institute (for single subject arts teachers)

In a year-long program, teachers will:
- collaboratively design an arts unit using the Understanding by Design model
- utilize the Japanese Lesson Study model to field-test, evaluate and refine their cadre’s unit
- engage in the creative process as artists through the exploration of a Creative Inquiry
- become informed about current arts education issues, requirements, research and leadership
- maintain a professional learning community with the aid of current on-line technology
Pathways to Understanding the Arts Disciplines (for generalist classroom teachers)

Provides 80 hours of instruction in the basic processes, techniques, skills and knowledge needed to begin teaching an arts discipline (dance, music, theatre, visual arts) in the classroom.

Program will be held in the Theatre, Music, and Visual Art Departments at UC Davis.
