Educational Research
Established in 1982 as the Northern California Mathematics Project (NCMP), the UC Davis Mathematics Project (UCDMP) is one of 24 sites that make up the California Mathematics Project. Our programs are the result of collaborative efforts that involve classroom teachers and University faculty. We value the "teachers-teaching-teachers" approach which allows our participants to assume roles of leadership. UCDMP offers a variety of programs for area mathematics teachers, including intensive Summer Institutes that provide teachers from kindergarten through college the opportunity to meet and work together on the UC Davis campus and off campus; Saturday follow-up sessions and supper seminars for Institute participants; teacher research groups; open programs that emphasize teaching problem solving for the different strands of mathematics instruction; and inservice programs designed to fit the needs specified by schools and school districts. Special attention is given to the needs of English Learners. All of these programs offer participants the opportunity to learn problem solving strategies and new mathematics content as well as the opportunity to discuss instructional issues and assessment methods.
