UCDMP 2009 SUMMER INSTITUTES

•The Development of Algebraic Thinking & Reasoning:
Smoothing the Transition from Arithmetic to Algebra

A Summer Institute for teachers of grades 3-7

With the ever increasing emphasis and attention on increasing student success in Algebra 1, it is more critical than ever that elementary and middle school students develop the algebraic reasoning and thinking skills they need to be successful in higher levels of mathematics. This institute will explore strategies and techniques that promote algebraic thinking and reasoning while at the same time supporting grade level standards in number sense, algebra and functions, and geometry.

Two sessions will be offered. One will be held at the University of California, Davis. The other will be held at Diablo Valley College in Pleasant Hill, California. Use the links below to register for one of the two sessions being offered.

Session 1: June 15-19, 2009 at UC Davis
       Complete registrations by May 29, 2009!
       Registration payments are due May 29, 2009.

•Coaching and Mentoring Teachers of Mathematics
A Summer Mathematics Institute for teacher leaders, department chairs, math coaches, BTSA support providers, and administrators

Are you in a position where you provide coaching and/or mentoring for teachers of mathematics at any grade level? This summer institute will provide you with the opportunity to deepen your understanding of strategies and techniques specific to the teaching of mathematics as well as strategies to increase your effectiveness as a math coach.

Dates: July 7-10, 2009
Times: 8:00 AM-4:00 PM
Location: University of California, Davis
Cost: $280 (includes continental breakfast and lunch)

UCDMP SATURDAY SERIES 2008-09
BIG IDEAS IN TEACHING MATHEMATICS,
A Saturday Series for K-12 Mathematics Educators

Registration in advance is required. Participation certificates will only be available for pre-registrants who stay the full session. Registration at the door is not permitted.

Teachers will have an opportunity to purchase 2 CEU's for attending 3 of the 5 Saturday sessions.
