Tobin White, associate professor of mathematics education, is investigating how collaborative problem-solving among students using handheld computers can increase learning in algebra.

White’s research is funded through a $672,000 grant from the National Science Foundation–a prestigious Faculty Early Career Development Program grant. Over the next five years (2009-13), White will investigate whether this approach can provide students with a deeper understanding of algebra.
