The Healthy Start Field Office (HSFO) was created to provide training and technical assistance services to the more than 1,000 public schools in California receiving SB-620 Healthy Start planning or operational grants from the California Department of Education (CDE).

These grants were established in 1991 by SB-620 and have been awarded annually to establish school-linked learning supports for children, families, and communities. Over 850 grants had been awarded in all 58 counties of California.

The Field Office was located in The Center for Cooperative Research and Extension Services for Schools (CRESS Center) in the School of Education at UC Davis.
