Programs & Degrees

The School offers a wide range of academic and professional development programs that prepare university faculty and research professionals, as well as teaching and administrative leaders for the world of public education (K-16).

Through our PhD, EdD and MA programs, we prepare students to take leadership roles in advancing research and scholarship, strengthening schools, and improving education policy.  In our credential program, we prepare students to become teacher leaders and educational advocates for all learners.

Our graduates are leaders and scholars whose practice and research address a wide range of issues critical to education.

PhD

The PhD in Education is a multidisciplinary program offered by the Graduate Group in Education.  It engages students in scholarly pursuits where theory, research and practice merge to prepare them for rewarding careers in educational research, teaching and other leadership roles.

EdD

Our EdD programs, offered in partnership with California State University campuses, are designed to prepare exemplary educational leaders for schools, community colleges, and related areas within education.

Master of Arts

The MA Program in Education offers three tracks: a general track that serves a broad range of student research interests and career plans, a Practicing Teachers track that offers research training and experience focused on classroom-based inquiry and instructional intervention, and an MA/Credential track that integrates the MA with the Teaching Credential and focuses particularly on classroom-based research.

Teaching Credential (with MA)

The Teaching Credential Program, in conjunction with the MA Program's MA/Credential track, offers an opportunity for qualified students to obtain both a Master of Arts in Education degree and a Multiple Subject or Single Subject Credential (optional BCLAD emphasis) in a combined five-quarter program.

Undergraduate/Minor

Undergraduate courses in education cover a broad range of topics as they relate to educational issues in our schools and society. Students from all disciplines are welcome into these courses and will benefit by developing their perspectives on educational issues from student to citizen. In addition, the Minor in Education is open to all UC Davis undergraduates. It offers an introduction to educational theory, research, and practice, as well as opportunities to engage in fieldwork in local schools and the community.
