Opportunities for Research
Access to Schools: The School of Education has professional ties with many of the schools and districts in the greater Davis-Sacramento region and beyond. This region is characterized by extraordinary social, economic and cultural diversity. Within relatively short driving distances from the Davis campus, faculty and graduate students can conduct field research in inner city schools, suburban schools, and rural schools. They also have research access to schools and classrooms serving ethnically and linguistically diverse students and to a rich variety of educational projects and programs.
The "Capital Advantage": Proximity to the state capital in Sacramento further provides numerous opportunities for research on educational and social policymaking and on the administration of statewide educational initiatives.
CRESS Center: Integral to the School is the Center for Cooperative Research and Extension Specialists for Schools (the CRESS Center), which houses five subject matter projects as well as the Field Office for the statewide Healthy Start Program and a Teacher Research Program. These programs give researchers the opportunity to investigate university collaboration with K-12, professional development programs for teachers, and the role these programs play in instructional improvement and school change.
Teaching Credential Program: The collaborative model of our teacher preparation program gives researchers the opportunity to investigate the professional development of novice teachers and to evaluate how such a model contributes to developing teacher-leaders.
