Globe Education Academy
UC Davis School of Education and Globe Education, Shakespeare’s
Globe, in London are partners in the Globe Education Academy for
Teachers, a professional development initiative that provides
in-depth learning opportunities for selected UC Davis
Credential/MA candidates,
Each year, members of the Globe
Education Academy (GEA) travel to London for intensive, immersive
training in the Globe Education Practices at Shakespeare’s Globe.
The result is a unique program of study and practice, partnered
with research, which provides active experiential tools for using
the texts of Shakespeare to newly credentialed language arts,
social studies/history, and multiple subject teachers.
During their first year of teaching, while completing their MA
with the School of Education, students apply these new skills to
their classroom practice, and take part in an ongoing research
project evaluating the effectiveness of techniques. Working
alongside advanced skills practitioners (mentors who are also
working teachers), and the faculty of UC Davis School of
Education, these MA students design curriculum for their
classrooms, create points of inquiry and research, and present
their findings in an MA symposium.
Continued Professional Development for Teachers
The Center provides professional development programs for
Sacramento area teachers, both through workshops which teachers
can attend individually, or through programs brought onsite to
schools. These programs are led by Globe Educational
Practitioners from Shakespeare’s Globe.
In-class Workshops and Performances for Students
The center also provides in-class workshops for students. These
engaging programs are led by Globe Education Practitioners and
can be tailored for K-12 students at every grade level.
