This two-hour symposium on Local Leadership for Implementing Common Core Standards will be led by Dr. Michael Kirst, President of the State Board of Education. Kirst is also professor emeritus of education at Stanford University. He received his PhD in political economy and government from Harvard.

Kirst will address the following questions: What is the role of leadership in implementing the common core standards and assessments? How can districts build the architecture for transitioning to the new Smarter Balanced assessment program?
