Advancing Leaders Institute (ALI)
Application and Selection Process
Who Should Apply
The ALI is ideal for community college vice-chancellors, vice presidents, other cabinet-level administrators and executive deans with at least two years of experience in a high-level administrative role. Candidates should bring growth mindsets, be equity-oriented, student-centered, interested in disrupting structural barriers (processes, practices, and mindsets), and be oriented toward transformational leadership. While the ALI is aimed at future leaders of the California Community Colleges and will thus draw its cohorts from those now working in higher education in California, we will consider strong candidates from out of state who are looking to transition to a CEO role in California.
Selection Process
A cohort of 35-40 aspiring leaders will be selected for 2023 based on their breadth of experience, geographic and institutional representation, diversity of backgrounds and roles, and application materials.
Application Process
ALI applicants must complete an application. As you prepare your application, please plan to share:
- Your CV/resume
- A short narrative on why ALI feels timely for you now (no more than 250 words)
- A short narrative on your perception of the biggest challenges and opportunities facing California community colleges today (no more than 250 words)
- A reference letter, which may come from any individual (colleague, mentor or supervisor as a few examples) and may be no more than 250 words in length.
Applications are due February 28th, 2023.
For the inaugural cohort of ALI in 2023, tuition will be covered by scholarship. Participants will be responsible for covering the costs of travel and lodging only.
