Dean Lindstrom to Serve as Fulbright Specialist

Dr. Lauren Lindstrom, Dean of the School of Education at UC Davis, has been selected to serve as a Fulbright Specialist in the area of education, an appointment she will hold for three years. She is the second faculty member at the School of Education to serve as a Fulbright Specialist. Dr. Nadeen Ruiz, Lecturer/Supervisor in our Multiple Subject Credential Program, is on the roster for 2014-2019.

“I’m very proud to be representing the School of Education and the university in this way,” Lindstrom said, “and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned over the years about improving lifetime outcomes for children and young adults with disabilities. I know that I’ll learn a lot from my experiences as well.”

Lindstrom’s areas of research include career development, autism and developmental disabilities, employment and education for youth with disabilities. She has been recognized nationally and internationally for her work promoting employment and access for individuals with disabilities and in 2013 received the “Employment for All” award from the European Association of Service Providers for Persons with Disabilities.

The Fulbright Specialist Program was established in 2001 and sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning and related subjects at academic institutions abroad for a period of 2 to 6 weeks, which allows them to continue their work in their academic positions.

Fulbright Specialists are selected through a highly competitive process, and are a diverse group of highly experienced, well-established faculty members and professionals who represent a wide variety of academic disciplines and professions. They join the Fulbright Specialist roster for three years and may work on multiple projects during that time.

“The Fulbright Specialist program aligns very well with the School of Education’s mission and the university’s role as a land grant institution,” said Lindstrom. “We are committed to conducting research that will be utilized in the field, whether that’s in the areas of agriculture, medicine or, in this case, education. Serving as a Fulbright Specialist also supports the School of Education’s mission of educational equity. It’s just a great opportunity in so many ways.”
