We want to help you get started at the RAD Center and let you know timelines involved when you decide to work with us. These are the usual waiting times for getting your child or teen involved with the RAD Center:
Once we receive a call or email inquiring about services, we will send you a confidential intake form so that you can provide us with detailed information about your child as well as the services you desire. You may also download the intake form from our website here.
If you have any previous assessment reports that were administered either through your child/teen’s school or done privately, please send a copy with your intake forms.
After we receive your intake form and any other previous reports, we will provide a Proposal for Assessment within 3-5 business days. It will detail the specific assessments that will be used to comprehensively evaluate your child/teen’s reading strengths and weaknesses.
The assessment session will be scheduled approximately 1-2 weeks after you approve the Proposal for Assessment, depending on the availability of clinical staff.
The comprehensive Full Assessment will last between 3-4 hours, including time for breaks as needed.
After the assessment data is collected, our clinicians will write a full report detailing the findings. Our clinicians will meet with parents/guardians to go over the findings and discuss next steps.
An abbreviated Placement Assessment is an alternate possibility. This is a one-hour assessment used to determine placement in the reading program(s) and to set goals for intervention. Written reports are optional for this assessment. A reduced fee is associated with this assessment.
If after the initial assessment, intervention/remediation services are desired, the first session will be scheduled approximately 1-2 weeks after the assessment is completed.
Tutoring sessions are 2-3 times per week (three is optimal). Sessions last from 45-60 minutes. Our staff members will communicate with you after every session.
Our team will evaluate your child/teen’s progress carefully as he or she moves through the program. We will assess your child/teen’s progress every 20 sessions for those focusing on word recognition and fluency. If your child/teen is concentrating on reading comprehension, mastery testing is built into the program.
Your child/teen may be in the program for a few months to a year, depending upon the goals you have set. The RAD Center team works with them until they believe her or she is ready to leave the program. When your child/teen completes the program, we will provide compensatory strategies to use as they continue their education.

Assessments and services are provided on a sliding fee scale. If you can afford to pay the regular fees, we ask that you do so. We have a limited number of scholarships available. If this is of interest to you, please ask us for a scholarship application.
