Ariel Bowley
Single Subject Credential Student in Science
When you are a new graduate, fresh out of college and faced with debt, planning to further your education becomes challenging.
Ariel Bowley, a UC Davis alumna, knows this first-hand. As an out-of-state student, Bowley’s tuition is higher than other School of Education students, but receiving the UC Davis School of Education’s Power of 10 Scholarship has helped her take the next step toward a career in education.
Bowley was first attracted to the UC Davis campus as an undergraduate, earning her degree in genetics in just three years. After hearing great things about the School of Education’s Teaching Credential Program and the high percentage of job placements out of the program, Bowley decided it was time to pursue a teaching career. She began her credential program just this year, working at her primary student teaching placement and starting classes for teacher development.
With her teaching career underway, Bowley plans to teach science at the high school level. She hopes that her work as a high school teacher “will inspire students to work hard and strive for their dreams.”
“Receiving the scholarship gives me a sense of relief as I have out-of-state tuition fee on top of regular tuition fees,” says Bowley, “Anything helps when you are a student faced with debt.” Bowley is one of three credential students receiving of the Power of 10 Scholarship.
“If a person has the means and the desire to help,” says Bowley, “I would highly recommend someone make a gift so it can be disbursed to students who desperately need help to pay for school and improve their lives.”
