Educating Future Faculty to Engage with a New Demographic

This program prepares graduate students to better meet the needs of the “first generation” student – students who come from families where college-going is the exception, not the norm. Graduate students are expected to engage in their own pedagogical research, using the courses for which they are teaching assistants, to improve their understanding of and expertise in engaging and educating this target student group.  Most of the evaluation data are collected by the UC Merced program staff and institutional research unit (e.g. graduate student publication of their research, course evaluations, student persistence, etc.).
