Words Take Wing’s Impact on Educators and Students

Since it’s inception in 2005, Words Take Wing: Honoring Diversity in Children’s Literature (WTW), has brought over 10,000 local children, educators, and community members to the UC Davis campus to hear a published author or illustrator speak about his or her experiences in writing, art and life. For many of these students this is their first time hearing an author or illustrator speak about his or her work, and it is often their first time on a college campus. Each student takes with him or her not only an impression on his or her heart, but also a commemorative notebook and pen to help inspire storytelling and creativity.
