Overview

Programs for Youth

The School of Education is committed to making an impact in the lives of youth through both its research and its academic programs that prepare educators to focus on the needs of students first. In addition, we offer several programs that serve youth directly. These programs are aligned with our focus on literacy and science education.

Summer Enrichment Camps

In conjunction with Campus Recreation, the School of Education offers an exciting Summer Adventures in Enrichment Camps for kids in grades 4-12. And for the first time, there will be classes offered in Woodland. Keep reading to learn more about the camps and how to register students.

Sacramento Area Youth Speaks (SAYS)

Many youth have been told that their voices are less valuable than the voices of adults in their schools and communities. SAYS empowers youth throughout the Sacramento Region to share their thoughts through spoken word poetry. In addition, in partnership with districts and schools, SAYS provides professional development for teachers and places poet-mentors in classrooms to strengthen student literacy in classrooms and beyond.

Words Take Wing: Honoring Diversity in Children’s Literature

The School believes that children of all walks of life benefit from a focus on great literature written especially for them. This annual event invites an award-winning children’s literature author to speak to up to 1,000 k-12 students.

UC Davis Young Scholars Program

Nearly 50 years old, this program offers up to 40 high school students an opportunity to live on campus for six weeks in the summer and conduct  real-world research in a variety of labs across campus.
