What is the MA/Credential like at UC Davis?

This rigorous program is designed to develop teacher leaders who (1) are skilled at approaches to viewing student achievement through the lens of classroom-based inquiry; (2) reflect about their practice to improve student learning; (3) advocate for educational equity; and (4) are practiced at working collaboratively in order to deal with policy mandates in pedagogically sound ways.

This program runs for 15 months over five quarters. Students work toward their credential with an elementary or secondary authorization with MA courses integrated throughout the process. Students attain their credential after three full-time quarters and complete their MA inquiry in two part-time quarters during their first year of full-time teaching.

The course work and inquiry are designed to support beginning teachers as they tackle the challenges of learning to teach. The program targets working with all learners of diverse abilities, giving a special emphasis to English language learners.
