Launch Your STEM Teaching Career with the CalTeach/MAST Program and the Education Minor
Undergraduate students can meet prerequisites while preparing for a teaching credential program
You don’t have to wait until graduation to start your path to a teaching career. Science and math majors can get an early start through the UC Davis CalTeach/MAST program and the education minor. After graduation, earn your teaching credential/M.A. at the UC Davis School of Education.
Benefits of the CalTeach/MAST Program and the Education Minor
The UC Davis CalTeach/Mathematics and
Science Teaching Program (CalTeach/MAST) allows you
to explore mathematics and science teaching through engaging
coursework and internships.
A minor in education allows you to complete prerequisite coursework for the UC Davis School of Education’s teaching credential/M.A. program and gain classroom experience while developing an understanding of the issues and concerns facing the field of education.
And combining CalTeach/MAST courses with a minor in education prepares you to apply for and succeed in teaching credential programs by building theoretical knowledge, hands-on classroom experience, and a network of supportive faculty, peers, and mentors in the field.

By continuing your education at UC Davis, you’ll become a highly qualified teacher who is an advocate for equity in learning for all students. We offer five single subject credentials, including math and science, a multiple subject credential, and bilingual authorizations in Spanish and Mandarin.
If your major matches the credential you’re applying for, you have already met the subject matter requirement for that credential. For example, if you receive your bachelor’s degree in math, you have met the subject matter requirement for the math credential.
