Portrait of Brett Barley

Brett Barley has served since 2024 as Superintendent of the Dixon Unified School District, which serves 3,000 Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 12th grade students across six school sites. In his previous role, he served for five years as the Superintendent of the California Montessori Project (CMP). CMP serves 2,900 students in six public TK-8th grade schools in four school districts across the greater Sacramento area. During his tenure with CMP, Barley successfully led the organization through the pandemic, increased enrollment, and achieved the highest academic outcomes the school system has ever achieved on state assessments.

Barley began his career as a public school teacher in San Jose, California, serving primarily first generation students. He later served as the Deputy State Superintendent with the Nevada Department of Education, where he and his team were focused on implementing the nation’s most comprehensive education legislation, and as the Superintendent of Wonderful College Prep Academy, a free public school network serving grades Kindergarten through 12.
