Teaching Credential 2024 Kick Off
On Friday, August 2, 2024, we welcomed our incoming teaching credential students at the UC Davis Buehler Alumni and Visitors Center. During the event, students met their fellow credential candidates, did community building exercises led by the agriculture teaching credential student cohort, talked through the program expectations and resources, had opportunities to chat with faculty and staff, and got time to meet with their cohort to prepare for the upcoming year.

On Saturday, April 27, 2024, the School of Education’s Teachers as Learners program hosted a dynamic and enriching one-day event at the UC Davis International Center. The event featured workshops led by seasoned experts, including regional educators and UC Davis faculty, designed to enhance secondary educators’ ability to foster engaging, equitable, and thought-provoking conversations among their students and to empower participants with tools and strategies to elevate class discussions, such as practical and conceptual insights, real-world examples, and interactive activities.
Teacher Job Fair 2024
On March 16, 2024, the School of Education held our annual Teacher Job Fair at the UC Davis Conference Center. More than 20 school districts were represented at the event, including from Yuba City to the north, and the Bay Area and Los Angeles to the south. This event is held each spring for UC Davis teaching credential candidates and credential alumni as part of our Job Search Assistance for Teachers program.
Words Take Wing 2024 Celebration
This year’s Words Take Wing: Honoring Diversity in Children’s Literature event marked the 20th anniversary of this beloved program, and the retirement of founder Joanne Banducci from her position as a chair.
The day’s matinee presentation featured acclaimed children’s author Thanhhà Lại at the Mondavi Center, who was introduced to the audience by Social Science credential student Anh Nguyen. The matinee opened with a performance by the UC Davis Golden Turtle Lion Dancers, and over 1,200 students from local school districts were in attendance.
CANDEL Alumni Networking Event 2024
CANDEL alumni, faculty and students gathered on March 16th at the UC Davis Alumni Center for our annual alumni networking event, which included presentations by LeAnn Fong-Batkin, EdD ’11, Marney Randle, EdD ’23, Inez Anders, EdD ’23, and Marissa Luna Lopez, EdD ’23.

Towards a Reading of Black Lives Matter in France: Diasporic Connections and Global Social Movements
On February 7, 2024, the Transformative Justice in Education Center hosted Dr. Jean Beaman speaking on “Towards a Reading of Black Lives Matter in France: Diasporic Connections and Global Social Movements.” Beaman discussed her ongoing ethnographic research on anti-racist mobilization and activism against police violence in the United States and worldwide.

On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, the School of Education hosted a specially themed event exploring how comics have evolved beyond entertainment to become powerful voices that can educate and inspire readers. The event featured a presentation by Enrique García and an interview discussion with Barbara Brandon-Croft and Tara Nakashima Donahue. Moderated by Darnel Degand.
Chicanx and Latinx Education Symposium Research Panel

The first UC Davis Chicanx and Latinx Education Symposium engaged the question: What is Chicanx/Latinx Education in theory, research, and practice? The event brought together three interdisciplinary Chicanx/Latinx education scholar-activists to present their work in a research panel, dialogue with us, and participate in a mentorship session with undergraduate/graduate/professional students engaged in studies and work at this intersection.
