The School of Education celebrated Picnic Day on April 11, 2025 with two booths hosted by Profs. Darnel Degand and Lee Martin. Degand showed visitors how to create their own comics using different template styles, pens, and colored pencils, and provided examples of different work that his students have created. Martin, along with graduate researcher and Ph.D. student J.C. Leapman, led attendees through a Beta Lab maker activity: light-up greeting cards. Using construction paper, batteries, miniature LED lights, and conductive tape, visitors created hand-drawn cards that would light up when opened. Martin also invited Picnic Day attendees to explore the Beta Lab van and learn more about the lab’s work.
