Congratulations Dr. Lu Yang!

Lu Yang, Ph.D. is now working as a Senior Data Analyst at Applied Survey Research in the Bay Area.

In her dissertation, entitled “Language learning motivation and foreign language achievement: A study on upper elementary English learners in China,” Lu developed and examined the psychometric properties of a motivation survey for upper elementary English learners in China. She collected data from a sample of 657 elementary students from a less developed non-provincial city in China. She then investigated the effects of three motivational factors— perceived parental influence, perceived peer influence, and English learning experience—on their English achievement.

Lu was instrumental in developing our lab. She was involved in all our projects, assisting with all aspects of data collection, data analysis, and dissemination. She has worked with many of our undergraduate students who were always thankful for her mentoring. Her statistical expertise was especially helpful in moving many of our projects along. Her dedication and enthusiasm will certainly be missed!

Congratulations Dr. Yang! We will miss you but we look forward to continued collaborations!
