Lyndon Huling

'07, EdD '18

“I’m passionate about making UC Davis a welcoming and inclusive community for everyone,” said Lyndon Huling (’07, EdD ’18). “This is vital to the mission of UC Davis and to me personally.”

Huling, a recent graduate of the CANDEL program at the School of Education, has dedicated his career to ensuring that UC Davis is a place where diversity, equity and inclusion are at the forefront of every decision. After holding various positions on campus where he has advocated for students, staff and faculty, he is now the Senior Talent Acquisition Partner for Sourcing, Diversity and Outreach in Human Resources at UC Davis and UC Davis Health, a position where he says his doctorate in educational leadership is serving him well.

“The CANDEL program is designed to develop you as a leader and push your own thinking to expand your expertise in different areas such as shaping policy or utilizing data effectively,” said Huling. “The EdD has been a leverage point for achieving my professional goals. It’s not just the letters behind my name that have helped me, but the expansion of my knowledge and my ability to be a better practitioner.”

Huling became interested in higher education administration during his senior year of his undergraduate studies at UC Davis, where he also completed minors in education and Human Development. He especially values his current career because of the opportunities he has to give back to the UC Davis community. In addition to his position in Human Resources, he actively participates in the Staff Diversity Administrative Advisory Committee, the Staff Advisory Committee on Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Staff Assembly. His dissertation explored how African-American student organizations affect student retention, a complement to his early career at UC Davis overseeing student organizations and contributing to the university’s efforts to bolster student retention.

“What makes me proud to be an Aggie is that different perspectives are valued here,” said Huling. “I’m proud to be helping shape the future of education by ensuring that a diverse set of voices are welcome at this world-class university.”
