Glen Thomas
Honorary Advisor; Former Secretary of Education, State of California
Dr. Glen Thomas has been a classroom teacher and an administrator at the school, district, county office, and state levels. He served as Assistant Superintendent in the State Department of Education, as State Education Technology Director, and for ten years was the Executive Secretary to the State Curriculum Commission. He also worked with the Academic Standards Commission and served on the High School Exit Exam panel.
From 1998 to 2007, Glen served as Executive Director for the California County Superintendents Educational Services Association, comprised of the state’s 58 constitutional county superintendents of schools. From 2009 to 2010, Dr. Thomas served as California Secretary of Education for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, leading the efforts for free digital textbooks, improving early childhood education, adopting the common core standards, and seeing that California was the first state to apply for federal stimulus funds for higher education and K-12 schools.
Glen, who has a doctorate from USC in education curriculum policy, is now retired and advises numerous educational entities. His daughter Jody is a graduate of UC Davis in Genetics and is currently a chemist in Bakersfield.
