Mike Bettes joined the UC Davis School of Education in January 2026 as an Educational Talent Search (ETS) Advisor. He provides academic advising and early college preparation to middle school students in Shasta County, helping them build foundational skills that support future post‑secondary success. He leads site‑based programs that foster a college‑going culture, including workshops on high school transition, career exploration, and financial literacy.

Before joining UC Davis, Mike worked as a school counselor, program manager, and trainer in the K–12 and non‑profit sectors. He has a specialized background in trauma‑informed care and behavioral support, with expertise in Trust‑Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and Multi‑Tiered System of Supports (MTSS). His career is dedicated to advocating for students from underserved and under‑resourced backgrounds and ensuring they have equitable supports to succeed academically and socially.

Mike earned an M.S. in Educational Counseling and a Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential from National University in 2018. He also holds a B.A. in Psychology from California State University, Northridge.
