Rachel Restani
Research Fellow
Rachel Restani advocates for social justice through mathematics education. After teaching high school mathematics in linguistically and economically diverse communities, Rachel has been driven to support teacher education and professional development using problem-based methods that align with students’ cultural backgrounds.
While she worked toward her PhD in Education at UC Davis, Rachel studied under the guidance of Professor Rebecca Ambrose. After graduating in 2018, Rachel spent two years as a postdoctoral research fellow in New Zealand where she collected and analyzed data for the Developing Mathematical Inquiry Communities (DMIC) project. When she returned to California, Rachel worked as a math specialist for Oakland Unified School District. She is currently working for the UC Davis School of Education project called, Building Students’ Academic Language in Mathematics Through Integrated English Language Development.
