Our social science credential program is designed to prepare students to teach in the secondary classroom levels. The coursework addresses the acquisition of effective teaching strategies, the implementation of curriculum based on the California framework for social studies, and the use of educational theories to inform the practical application of teaching methodology. Students have the additional opportunity to participate in workshops and seminars offered by the UC Davis Area 3 History Project. The History Project offers a multitude of resources assembled by teachers for teachers.
The coursework during the first year is focused and intensive, enabling you to complete the courses and student-teaching component required for the Teaching Credential in three academic quarters. Although the deadline to apply for the program is May 31, this subject area tends to be popular and therefore we encourage you to apply by April 15th at the latest to ensure your application is received and viewed.
