The Role of Community and Citizen Science (CCS) in California’s Marine Protected Areas

Monday, March 7, 2022
11:00 AM – 12:00 PM PST

Nicole Palma, a Program Manager for the Marine Protected Area (MPA) Collaborative Network, led a presentation on The Role of Community and Citizen Science in Marine Protected Areas. The mission of the MPA Collaborative Network is to support coastal communities in civic engagement and ocean stewardship, as well as engaging local partners and stakeholders in MPA management.

A few key questions that we discussed :

  • How can an established coast-wide network of volunteers be leveraged to support community and citizen science projects?
  • What is the role of community and citizen science in marine protected areas?
