UC Davis Health Speaker Series
UC Davis Health Clinical and Transitional Science Center IAL Speaker Series: Engaging Adolescent and Young Adults (AYA) in Health Research
On November 11th, our Youth Education Program Manager, Peggy Harte, presented at the UC Davis Health Clinical and Translational Science Center IAL Speaker Series: Engaging Adolescent and Young Adults (AYA) in Health Research. This course is part of a three-part series on Inclusion Across the Lifespan (IAL) in Clinical Research. The purpose of the session was to broadly inform researchers and staff about the NIH’s Inclusion Across the Lifespan policy. The goal of the session was to discuss ways to engage adolescents and young adults in research and inform the audience of the CTSC’s Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Health Research Board. These courses are attended by Clinical Research Coordinators (CRCs) who view the speakers as experts when it comes to engaging with different populations. During the presentation, Peggy shared ways in which researchers can support youth engagement in research by focusing on community and citizen science, focusing on ways to both recruit and maintain youth participants by focusing on issues important to them and their community. This was Peggy’s third presentation in collaboration with UCD Health. Past presentations focused on community action and youth engagement with environmental justice issues that impact health outcomes.
