The Supervisors of Teacher
Education Network Team (STENT) is an associated organization of
the California Council on
Education. As a collaborative group of educators, STENT
works to understand the unique position that supervisors hold in
preparing future teachers.
STENT is the first of its kind, connecting supervisors from
across California to cultivate community, create professional
development opportunities, and increase awareness around their
work and expertise. STENT’s goals are to:
- Identify, discuss and share equity and social justice
practices for teacher educators, including specific examples from
fieldwork supervisors.
- Increase communication and collaboration between teacher
educators and across teacher education programs in
California and beyond.
- Examine current student feedback, observation
and teaching evaluation tools and processes to make
improvements and identify common challenges
- Identify equity focused supervision practices to guide
future improvement efforts across teacher education
programs.
- Support the professional learning of teacher education
supervisors
As part of STENT, the team also hosts an annual
conference that addresses the theme “Building a Community of
Supervisors for Equity and Justice.” The workshops encourage
interaction between participants, highlighting the importance of
collective knowledge to achieve equitable outcomes in the
education field.
Why is STENT here?
STENT was established by the California Teacher Education
Research and Improvement Network (CTERIN), a consortium that was
originally funded by the University of California Office of the
President. CTERIN has since been concluded, however; the STENT
team and conference series will continue operating as an
independent entity, steered by a leadership team that
includes Lisa Sullivan of
the UC Davis School of Education.
