Expanding Equity in Educational Research Speaker Series: Hispanic-Serving Institutions
Profs. Marcela Cuellar and Jacob Hibel and Ph.D. student Isabella Cantu presented at the School of Education’s Expanding Equity in Educational Research Speaker Series. Their presentations addressed Hispanic-Serving Institutions and the positive impacts this designation can have on K-12 and higher education—especially at R1 institutions.
“What does it mean to be at this intersection of being both an HSI and an R1?” asked Cuellar. “This intersection might push our thinking both in terms of reframing excellence, which is something that we often attribute to R1 institutions, as well as this idea of ‘servingness’ which is something that is intersected at HSIs.” Read more about this Expanding Equity in Educational Research Speaker Series presentation and view photos.
Dean’s Student Advisory Council Kicks Off 2024–25 Meetings
The 2024–25 Dean’s Student Advisory Council held its first quarterly meeting in November. The council is composed of eight students from School of Education academic programs. “It’s important that our leadership meet with students so we can learn more about their experiences and better understand the challenges they’re facing,” said Dean Tom Smith. “Student perspectives inform and shape the School’s growth, and the members of the council are a conduit for us to hear all student voices.” Read more about the 2024-25 Dean’s Student Advisory Council.
