HSI Research Colectiva

The Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Research Colectiva

Overview

The Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) Research Colectiva is housed within the UC Davis School of Education and led by Dr. Marcela Cuellar, Dr. Gina Garcia, and Dr. Rebecca Covarrubias. The HSI Research Colectiva is a newly established organization aimed to bridge, generate, and mobilize research about HSIs in California to inform policy decisions and improvements in practice.

The HSI Research Colectiva hosted its inaugural HSI Research Colectiva Convening on April 25, 2024. This day-long event discussed the future of California Hispanic-Serving Institutions, which are colleges and universities that enroll at least 25% Hispanic/Latino students. This convening of scholars and practitioners allowed us to share research and envision an agenda for HSI policy and practice in California. The goal of the Colectiva is to establish a statewide HSI policy agenda that encompasses the most pressing state priorities such as Guided Pathways, dual enrollment, financial aid, and support for basic needs.
