Internship Opportunity, 2024-2025 Academic Year

The UC Davis Center for Community and Citizen Science is hiring 1-2 student interns for the UC Davis fall quarter with the potential to extend through the 2024-2025 academic year. Apply on Handshake, Job #9266844.

This is an opportunity to work at a university-based research center pursuing a mission that bridges academic excellence with real-world impact. Student interns will receive experience and mentorship relevant to a wide range of future careers, through support of program administration, strategic communication, and specific projects as appropriate. There will also be opportunities to engage with wide-ranging topics in environmental education, conservation, community development, and social and natural sciences. Interns may have the opportunity to lead aspects of projects that result in conference presentations, posters, or other products. Most work can be done virtually or in-person, with occasional in-person requirements.

What you will do:

  • Proactively support the Center’s general administrative needs across a range of areas including travel reimbursements, purchasing, contracts, website management, events. Learn our systems, and help us continue to improve how we function as a unit.
  • Collaborate with staff, postdoctoral scholars and graduate students, supporting specific projects. Bring your particular skills, experience, and creative ideas to our work. 
  • Participate in our community through attendance at weekly lab meetings and other scientific seminars, occasional social events and other opportunities.
  • Be available to work with us for, on average, at least 10 hours/week (depending on the fit and mutual agreement, this position could reach 20 hours per week).

Desired Qualifications:

  • You are highly organized, responsible, and able to learn quickly about the processes and systems that keep an organization moving forward. Bonus: you have previous experience with project and/or office management.
  • You have an interest in community and citizen science, environmental science, and/or education, and desire to learn about and support work on these topics. Bonus: you have hands-on experience in these areas, and/or they are directly relevant to your goals. 
  • You are a good communicator, both with your immediate collaborating colleagues, and to external audiences. Bonus: You can point to examples of your communication skills, such as website writing, academic writing, video production, presentations, social media, or graphic design.
  • You exhibit responsible behavior and cognizance of the safety of self and others.
  • You have an understanding of, and/or experience with issues related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility. 
  • You are a learner who is open to, and actively seeks honest and direct feedback on your work with us, and feels comfortable sharing feedback with your colleagues.
  • You are an undergraduate student currently enrolled at UC Davis. Bonus: you are eligible for work study.
