We appreciate your interest in the PhD program offered by the
Graduate Group in Education at the University of California
Davis. Our faculty members represent a range of academic
disciplines and approach research from a variety of perspectives.
We welcome students who reflect this diversity in their academic
preparation and work experiences. We require students to learn
about different research methodologies, both quantitative and
qualitative so that they can grapple with the complex issues
facing schools today. Applicants who demonstrate some familiarity
with contemporary research in education and who have identified a
specific research interest are qualities we look for in
applications. GRE scores are taken into account as one of many
indicators of an applicant’s academic capabilities. Among our
most important considerations in admitting an applicant is the
fit between his/her research interests and our faculty’s
expertise. We encourage applicants to contact faculty members to
explore this fit and to learn more about our program.
